This is a property development company that has built a substantial portfolio of properties quietly through the years in warehouse, retail, office and residential property across Auckland. It is a small, tightly run team with a hands on, no frills approach to getting the job done. The owner is an integral part of the business being involved in day to day decisions, making purchases and visiting premises. The team is collaborative by nature with a strong focus on what is important.

The team has a very flat structure with defined roles set up to get things done efficiently. Communication is critical and the team work together in a collaborative way with confidence that the job will get done and done promptly. Everyone has a role to play - there are plenty of challenges and opportunities to be creative in approach. A small team means that everyone counts, takes responsibility for their role and is results orientated. It is very much a streamline operation with a high level of functionality on what really counts at the end of the day.
What will you do?
This role has plenty of variety combining legal and accounting:
Taking responsibility for overseeing the accounts payable, receivable and debtor’s management (one direct report)
Month end and year end reconciliations using Qube Vision, a property management system with a financial accounting function
Budget and cost control expenditure
Reporting, audit and payroll.
- preparation of leases using a standard template (Law Society forms)
- sale and purchase of properties
- design and build contracts
- Town Planning related work with external use of consultants for RM issues and more
Who you are
You will be a qualified solicitor and an accountant in an ideal world or have qualifications in one or the other and be able to do both! If you are an accountant, you will also need to have been involved in property transactions from both a practical and legal sense and if you are a solicitor you will have completed accounting through to month and year end. If you have worked in property development before that would just be perfect (but not essential). As it is a small team you will feel comfortable working alongside the owner and running with day to day demands of a property development and ownership company. Strong communication and a collaborative working style will be important to keep costs under control and get the job done.
