We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time specialist employment lawyer to join the Disputes legal team within ASB's high performing, supportive, and collegial in-house legal team.  This role is 24 hours per week, with opportunities to work flexibly.

The Disputes legal team assists ASB teams with managing contentious and non-contentious litigation, disputes, and regulatory investigations.  It also provides legal advice and support in relation to employment law and employment relations issues.  You should have a background in employment and health and safety law, be a strategic thinker, and enjoy a variety of work.

The role:

  • The primary contact for sound, timely and effective legal advice on various employment and health and safety matters, including employment investigations, bank policies and processes, bargaining, and employment law change.
  • Legal advice and support for general disputes matters, including complaints, court proceedings, and regulatory change.
  • Liaise and represent ASB with external lawyers and advisers, and industry organisations as required.

The requirements:

You are technically excellent.  You are also a lateral thinker who enjoys working in a collaborative way, comfortable thinking on your feet, and who enjoys working in a fast paced environment.  You will need to be able to develop and maintain effective relationships, including with ASB's People and Culture team. You must hold, or be eligible to hold, a practising certificate as a lawyer in New Zealand and have approximately 7-10 years' relevant private practice or in-house experience.
