THE OPPORTUNITY

The Clinical Solicitor is responsible for managing the Deakin Law School legal practice clinic(s).  The person will be responsible for the provision of high-quality advice, assistance, and casework service to a diverse client base as well as supervising and instructing law students undertaking professional/clinical practice units. The person will have the opportunity to contribute as required to the School’s practical legal training offerings.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Delivering efficient and effective legal services to clients in accordance with legislation and professional practice standards.
Contributing to the delivery of professional/clinical legal practice units to Deakin law students through the supervision and instruction of students enrolled in these units and working in the Deakin Law School clinics.
Contributing to the School’s proposed Practical Legal Training program, including managing staff as required, engaging with accreditors, meeting accreditation standards, and documentation requirements.
Maintaining networks and close connections with community organisations, law reform agencies, and potential client sources and support services.


ABOUT YOU

A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise as a Solicitor or Barrister in Victoria.
A Bachelor of Laws degree with subsequent relevant work experience.
Experience in a law firm context and demonstrable expertise in relevant court procedures and case management.
Demonstrated capacity to work as an advocate and caseworker in complex legal matters.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills and an ability to work to deadlines.
